Web Site Basics
Every Web site requires the following:
- Somewhere to put it - this is called Hosting (Photos at right are of actual installation used by Cobourg Internet)
- A Domain Name (e.g. cobourginternet.com)
- A Design - someone has to do the work!
- Help with getting lots of traffic on the site
We can help with all these at competitive prices. You can have your own web site from about $200 for year one and about $100 per subsequent year.

Note: Cobourg Internet does not offer free tips for Web Site Design but does offer Professional Services (below) for this purpose.
Hosting requires a good computer, a good connection to the Internet and most of all Reliability.
We can supply hosting for you with four plans available. The name of the Host used is CobourgHost.com New - Bandwidths now increased.

Most Businesses will want the Prime plan but lower traffic sites may be able to use the Standard plan. The Elite and Pro plans will suit high traffic sites. For capacities larger than Pro, pricing will be pro-rated based on Bandwidth. For example, 400GB/mth would cost $100/mth. Hosting is billed annually except for Pro or higher.
Note that when you buy hosting from Cobourg Internet, the bandwidth and disk space is allocated. Unlike some other host companies, we don't say "unlimited" but actually limit you as demonstrated by delays, down time etc - you get what you pay for.
All sites have access to redundant Internet connections, a controlled highly secure environment, daily backups of all files, firewall protection and other security measures.
All sites have email accounts and these are protected against spam and viruses by Mail Scanner for no extra charge. If an email is borderline, the email will be labelled as such so you can see if you want it or not. Full details are provided here.
Setup of email and help with configuring is provided at no charge for customers who have used Cobourg Internet for design services. If you are a Hosting only client, then normal rates apply.
You can set up your own domain or if you like we can get it for you.
- Domain with suffix .com - $15 per year
- Domain with suffix .ca or .org - $25 per year
If we arrange your domain, we will make sure it gets renewed on time and all time to manage the domain is included in cost. All prices in Canadian dollars. We supply domains only to customers who also buy hosting.
If you are knowledgeable about web site design, you will know how long it takes to do various things. For example, original graphics and "Flash movies" take a long time so are relatively expensive. However, when you consider that introductory movies and extensive graphics are not used in the biggest and most used sites (except perhaps by advertisers), then you wonder why you need to spend money on these items. Sites like the major banks, Google and Yahoo - all keep it simple. However too little can be boring too so most of our sites use JavaScript and some use Flash and PHP to improve the visitor experience. Note that great care is taken to minimize spam and other security problems. I design useful, low cost sites - and end up with happy customers. Have a look at my sites for examples, I think you'll find them attractive.
If you have your own graphics or photos, these can be incorporated at a low cost.
The hourly rate for Cobourg Internet is $30 per hour. Invoices include a detailed listing of work done and time taken.
However, if you want an idea of costs, the following should give you some idea.
Typical Site Costs- A single page - your own domain name, set up, layout of your
text, links, adding a couple of your photos:
Host (Standard plan) $96, Domain (.com) $15, Design (3 hours) $90. Total $201 for first year, $111 for subsequent years with no changes.
- Four or five pages - your own domain name, 1 to 10 e-mail addresses,
set up, layout of your text, all navigation, links, full statistics.
Host (Prime plan) $126, Domain (.com) $15, Design (8 hours) $240. Total $381 for first year, $141 for subsequent years with no changes.
Search Engine submission and Optimization (SEO) is included.
Getting lots of traffic is important, and we can help - one very important item is to make sure Google finds your site easily.
Many web designers will tell you that there needs to be a lot of work done to make the site visible and/or popular with Search Engines but techniques that worked some years ago such as adding meta descriptions and keywords no longer have any effect. The fact is that sites should be designed from the beginning with SEO in mind and that's what we do.
As well as having information that people want, you need to keep the "Page Rank" high. Experience is what helps here. Google has made it clear that their "Page Rank" plus relevance determines whether a site gets near the top of the search results. Page Ranks for the sites managed by Cobourg Internet are listed here.
Since a high page rank means your sites are nearer the top of the Google results, it should be as high as you can get it. When Cobourg Internet builds your site, you will get information on how to improve your site's rank.

Note that it is quite possible, that a site will not be found by Google - or will not be in the first several pages of search result. This is usually because the Page rank is low or simply that Google has not yet found it!

Updates
To keep Cobourg Internet Clients up to date, a monthly newsletter is sent to them. Subjects include viewing traffic statistics, new features available, search engine optimization, spam management and more. In addition, a support page lists many of the documents covered in the newsletters.

If would like to pay by Credit card, let me know. When I email your invoice, it will include a PayPal Pay Now button which takes you to PayPal’s secure site. They accept Amex, Visa and Mastercard as well as PayPal account payments. Available only for emailed invoices.
