Election procedures and rules are governed by Provincial legislation and you can get a summary of the rules here.
The next municipal election will be held Monday, October 26, 2026 with the voting period opening on Friday, October 16, 2026.
Voting Locations
Voting in 2026 will be via Internet only. See By-Law 027-2025. Voting technology will be provided by Simply Voting Inc at a cost to the Town of $35K. There will be no voting locations - except for Computers set up for the purpose at the Library and elswhere - and no telephone voting. All eligible voters will receive a Voter Information Letter by mail. This sealed envelope will contain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and a secure Internet address for voting.

The Town has a web site to keep the community informed throughout the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election. Access here: CobourgVotes.ca. It has information for both voters and candidates.
Residents can find details on how, when, and where to vote, while prospective candidates can access information on the nomination process and campaigning in Cobourg. The site also features a detailed Frequently Asked Questions section. On Election Day, the unofficial results will be posted on CobourgVotes.ca.

Running for Office
The candidate nomination period opens on May 1, 2026 and closes 21 August.
The Town of Cobourg is inviting residents interested in running in the 2026 Municipal Election, or registering as a third party advertiser, to attend an upcoming Candidate Information Session. The Candidate Information Night is on Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 pm
