Re: April 2, 2024 Motion to exempt GWC and MSTH from receiving any Town Grants.
Notwithstanding that the GWC strategically just withdrew their application for funding from the Town, we support the position of the Mayor and Councillors Mutton and Darling. We are adamantly opposed to that of Beatty, Burchat and Bureau as their votes do not pass the “smell test”!
My wife and I are responsible senior citizens living across from the Brookside encampment. This ongoing, ever growing and disgraceful mess drags down our town and adversely affects and frightens us. The market value of our home has been significantly reduced. Lawlessness (theft, break-ins and intimidation, etc.) have been normalized and addiction thrives here. A cultural shift has occurred where the rule of law is being ignored and the administration of justice is in disrepute. The GWC and MSTH and their well-known members directly and indirectly support, grow and enable this encampment and make excuses for the ensuing behaviour.
We believe that certain Councillors are failing to govern adequately for the greater good of the majority and that a hugely disproportionate amount of Town resources plus an ongoing acceptance of antisocial and often criminal activity are given to that minuscule group and their enablers who are ruining our town.
How sad a role model this is for the youth that call Cobourg home.
